If we don’t ever take chances,
we won’t reach the rainbows.
If we don’t ever search, we’ll never
be able to find. If we don’t attempt
to get over our doubts and fears
we’ll never discover how wonderful
it is to live without them. If we
don’t go beyond difficulty, we won’t
grow any stronger. If we don’t keep
our dreams alive, we’ll wake up one
day and find that something else has
taken their place … and we won’t have
our dreams any longer.
But… if we can take a chance every now
and then, seek and search, discover and dream,
grow and go through each day with the
knowledge… that we can only take as much
as we can give, and we will only get as much
out of life as we allow ourselves to live… then
we really can find happiness.
We can be among the fortunate few. We can
be some of the lucky ones who discover that
“meant-to-be” comes along more easily if
it joins forces with persistence and effort
and resolve.
And after all the hard work is done, we can
smile inside to remember how impossible it
all once seemed… to be able to reach out
for those rainbows and walk right into
those dreams.

Recommended reading: For those of you thinking, “Great, now I want my dreams and this poem really spoke to me, but ughhh, I don’t know exactly what my dreams are or where to even begin…” Read Finding Your Own North Star by Martha Beck as fast as you can. Okay, maybe not as fast as you can, but don’t put it down until the very last page. It’s worth it. You are worth it. Believe me, the book sat on my own bookshelf for three years until two weeks ago when I picked it up in a fit of desperation for inspiration and
I haven’t looked back.
