You Are Missing Something: Are You Listening To Yourself?

Lacy Kirkland, CPC

I looked at a picture of myself today. A picture of me during one of my happiest, silliest, and most joyful times. And this is what I realized:

When you start doing the things you were born to do, life has a funny way of working out.

You see, what I haven’t told you lately is that about two weeks ago I decided to let go. Seriously. To just let go of the “stuff” that holds me back. To trust that those who are drawn to me, and I to them are in perfect alignment. Choose to move more quickly, think less and moving into action more. Refusing to put off for tomorrow, what I could do now… And you wouldn’t believe what gets done when I stop thinking about what I need to do and start doing more of it!

I also decided that maybe I’d give myself the benefit of the doubt. That, hey, I’d get a little cocky and believe that I really do have a precise and beautiful gift to offer this world.

Wow! The people I’ve met, the experiences I have welcomed in and the joy I’ve felt has been so absolutely wonderful. Now, I don’t know about you, but I happen to forget my natural talents and treasures. Do you ever find yourself embracing your true self one minute and darting off like a dog chasing a bird the next? Me too!!

I went to college because I thought a well educated woman with a college degree, an acceptable one, made me “good enough”. Thank God I learned about halfway through that I love, love, love, learning and it become more than just “being good enough.” I even attended seminars that “successful people” attend. That’s what I was supposed to do, right? I read books that I believe would deliver me to a destination better than where I was. But guess what? THIS IS IT!

This is life. My 27 years of experience in learning to stay alive through surgeries, infections, complications, and so forth is valuable. Your life experience is too. What have you done in life that supports others? We all have natural gifts and talents… What are you often complimented for and what do people come to you for answers to? This is a key indicator of your life gift.

“It is better to believe than not to, better to hope than to fear, better to love than to hate.”

Listen to your true self

Guess what else? I have a confession… I also *gulp* admit that though most people see me as the joyous, bubbly, happy and full of life woman that I am, I wasn’t really being me lately. I started listening to my internal dialogue and noticing that I defaulted to “stinkin’ thinkin’” before allowing goodness.

In other words, in an attempt to control my environment and create my life to occur just so, I actually cut myself off from that very goodness I was seeking! I was ultimately saying “no” to life before ever saying “yes”. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Don’t I coach people to do the very opposite?

Yes!

I am the self-proclaimed “believer of all things good”, the one who gives most everyone the benefit of the doubt, who considered everyone’s feelings involved in anything. What was I thinking? So, I stopped. I stopped over thinking. I stopped dabbling and started diving in. I stopped questioning and began knowing. I stopped fearing and began welcoming.

What is your core life belief?

What can you do to move more closely toward your personal truth? How can you embrace the live you have always wanted to live, NOW? You are the one person who knows the most about yourself. It’s all you.

What have you learned about yourself in the last 5 minutes? Feel free to post in a comment below, or send me an email!

To the you that is YOU!
