How Many Times Have You Read The Same Book, Twice?
I spent a good 30 minutes dusting my bookshelf yesterday when it occurred to me that some of my favorite books sit on the shelves waiting to be read, or waiting for a time when I need to reference them. Truth is, I never read the same book twice. Not one. Never.
There are millions of new books shooting off the press by the time I finish one book, that to go back and read it isn’t something I’m likely to do. I want fresh new content, baby!
Give Your Top 5 Away
So, here’s what I propose we do. Give our books away. No, not the crappy, ratty books that you didn’t really like anyway.
Pick out your top 5 favorite books and give them to someone you believe will benefit from them. If you’re feeling super-connected, ask them to pay it forward.
We Are Made Brilliant By The Books We Share
Take it from me, surrounding yourself with books on how to live life, and keeping them on hand for years, hauling them from place to place, isn’t actually the point of books at all. We aren’t more powerful the more books we have. We are, however, made more aware by the books we read and brilliant by the books we share. Nothing in there says we’ll be even more wonderful if we keep the books for 15 years.
Give away your top 5 favorite books… Then keep giving. Spread the good feeling, pass along what you know.
I Think We’re On To Something, Folks!
Just so happens that as I typed this post, a twitter feed from marketing genius, Seth Godin, came through… Lookie here!

I regularly give my favorite books away – my family has a type of “book share” going on, in which we circulate books amongst ourselves and our friends. This way, if you love a book, you can expose the people you love to it. This gives them a little insight into your soul/mind at that point in time. So I support this book movement of yours – I will look through my bookshelf when I get home and pass on some favorites to everyone!
I love your book share idea, Jenni! This is a totally new concept for me. I learned the art of book hording at a very young age and was taught only to give the book away when I was absolutely certain I wouldn’t read it again… and at that point, *gulp* I gave it to Goodwill hoping the right person would find it at the perfect time, instead of taking the time to gift it to someone close to me who could really use it.
To book sharing and beyond!
