Listening To Life: What I Learned From Olly The Otter

Choosing The Journey

I spent a wonderful extended weekend at home with my parents who live in Bend, Oregon, about 3 hours away from me in Portland. I enjoyed lunch, dinner prep, and evening talks with Mom and snowmobiling, tinkering in the garage and early morning coffee (always readily prepared with love for me) with Dad.
It is amazing what we learn about life when we give ourselves a break from “real life” so that we may take in the love, nurture the relationships and fill up our cup of life.

I ventured home this Sunday afternoon and as I passed through the small town of Detroit, Oregon, I noticed the usually submerged arm of Detroit Lake, flowing with a waterfall that secretly called my name. I drove by… then I turned around. Where did I really have to be that was more important than the joy I felt when I looked across the landscape at this new found oasis?

I parked my car, packed my pockets with keys, camera, and my phone and strategically sidestepped down the hillside to the small river below. Just moments before finding this little haven, I’d been thinking about ways to de-stress in life. What is it, after all, that we carry with us that so bog us down?

In a moment of inspiration, I decided I’d record a video blog entry for you all to enjoy and guess what? Our friendly Oregon Otter, I’ll call him Olly, made a guest appearance too!!

To arrive is to journey and to journey is to arrive.

May you receive exactly what you are seeking in this video, this moment, and this day. You deserve the best. As you move forward in life, may you choose the journey, because life itself is the journey. To have arrived is to journey and to journey is to arrive.

Whether you take  a break, whether you walk to the park, whether you find an otter in a river somewhere halfway home, whatever it is that you do… May you nourish and nurture the things that you do.

May you love your life, may you create a life that you love, may you know that you are absolutely so totally wonderfully deserving of it. May you know all of these things. May you believe these things. May you hold this true in your heart. And may you absolutely embrace life as it is. As the beautiful, wonderful, natural thing that it is.

As you find your away against things that are contrasting experiences that aren’t that much fun, may you know that you don’t find them much fun because you are destined for things greater than that. And may you know that perhaps it’s time to take a next step, perhaps it’s time to move in a different direction, whatever it may be for you.

May you move forward, may you live happily and may you know that you deserve every single dream that you have.

Live happily, have a wonderful day and be blessed.
